dinner in a train

We live by the tracks, which surprisingly we love. Bryan and I like to joke that we live by an art gallery that's constantly changing with new graffiti art. The trains also serve as the best alarm clock I've ever had. I wake up at 7 each and every day. But the trains have been taken to a new level of awesomeness when one parks for the weekend with open cars. In which case, we claim it as our new dining room.

Little Lamb

Bryan found the little lamb yesterday--the runt of triplets. Mama had already moved on with her healthier two babies, plus she only has two teats so there really was no room for a third baby. So B scooped the little man up and took him home. Orphan lambs are generally easy to care for and have a good survival rate bottle feeding, but this guy was the littlest we've seen. We were up every 4 hours feeding him, but it wasn't looking too good for him. This morning little lamb passed away. It's sad, but it's the cycle of farm life. And as sad as it is, I really appreciate the life of a farmer. It's a mix between simple, thankful, and sobering. It slows you down and makes you soak in the moment realizing how fragile life can be.

Here's some pictures of evening last night

one bedroom. one pet.

I get a call from Bryan, "So three lambs were born last night..." [I love these kinds of updates] "...but one of them isn't doing so well..."[Hate these] "...I think I'm going to bring him home for the night. I can't bear to just leave him. Is that ok?"

We kinda have a rule in our house. It goes like this: "One bedroom. One pet. Two bedroom. Two Pet. And so on until that farm we dream of is ours." I think it's a great rule because our hearts usually win out over our logic and this rule prevents that. Except for today, in which we have "One bedroom. One dog. One lamb."

I'll let you know if we get any sleep tonight.

Dear Arend + Tarah,

You both abound in laughter and joy. This may sound weird, but I really hope we're friends when we're 80 because all I kept telling Bryan was, "those two are going to be that cute old couple that you see in the diner still laughing their hearts out and enjoying one another." It's evident to see that you bring each other so much joy and I feel so lucky to be shooting your wedding in August!
love,
Sam
